The most challenging part of the project was transforming former communal apartments into an entirely new space. By combining ten acquired apartments, we created a full-scale hotel with an elegant lobby, corridors, and eight guest rooms.
As the building is a cultural heritage site, the project required extensive archival research. A major part of the work involved restoring the façades, window frames, and original plasterwork.
Creating Casa del Sole was a real challenge for our team. When we first arrived to take measurements in the winter of 2021, we could hardly imagine the scale of work ahead: dismantling the staircase and floor structures, reinforcing the roof, and constructing new load-bearing elements.

Encyclopedia of Taganrog: Mayer Residence (92 Grecheskaya Street). A distinctive example of Russian provincial Classicism. Its provincial character is reflected in the lack of strict stylistic unity: the ground-floor windows are crowned with keystones, while those on the upper floor feature pediments of different forms — rectangular and triangular. The building is completed by a crowning cornice. Judging by the size of its windows, the second floor was clearly intended as the principal floor for receiving guests and spending time with family.

Our inspiration came from sun-drenched Italy and the films of Giuseppe Tornatore, Bernardo Bertolucci, Paolo Sorrentino, and Luca Guadagnino. Their mood is melancholic and romantic, filled with sensuality and a subtle sense of sadness.
Each film carries the atmosphere of an Italian summer — carefree and youthful, yet touched by the fleeting nature of those moments and the inevitability of change.
The films explore love, its intensity and transience, as well as the inevitable experiences of loss and separation.
Our search for the right imagery and color palette led us to the central idea of the project and its name — Casa del Sole, meaning “House under the Sun.”
The name brought together the colors, atmosphere, and mood we wanted to express through the interior. “House under the Sun” became the foundation of the concept and the starting point for the design of the lobby and guest rooms
Casa del Sole later became the hotel’s official name.
